The rumors for "Star Wars Episode VII" have been relentless for months. There has been a lot of speculation about the villain, the main character played by Daisy Ridley and where Luke fits into the new story.

But a few characters have not been given much thought. And they happen to be the ones many are excited to see -- Han and Leia.

Ever since the original films came to an end, the relationship between these two has become the subject of many novels and fan fiction. Will they get married and have Jedi children? Does Leia become the new leader of the Jedi Order alongside Luke?

And what of Han? Where does he go after making the transition from bandit to hero of the rebellion? How does he deal with life as a married man?

These are questions that many fans are hoping will be answered in the new "Star Wars," and yet there is no major rumor going around about either one.

The only speculation that has been going around is that Han and Chewie are not in possession of the Millenium Falcon when they supposedly meet Ridley's character at the start of the film. Many claim that Oscar Isaac's character is the one who now owns it. But how?

One theory is that he is Han and Leia's son. Another proposes that he won it off Han via gambling (after all, that is how Han got it from Lando).

It should be interesting to see how director J.J. Abrams has approached this relationship and how it alters the characters.

It is hard to believe that either character was brought back to simply be a cameo. But given their age and the new younger cast, what could they possibly do?

Are they even married? Having them together would likely yield a child and how they deal with marriage and parenthood would be an interesting perspective for the new film. Aside from the clumsy execution of Anakin and Padme's secret wedlock in Episode II, this franchise has not actually showcased this type of relationship just yet. It would be interesting to see just how two completely incompatible people actually do during the span of the years.

Maybe the reason Han and Chewie are spotted alone at the start of the film is because the smuggler had some marriage problems with Leia. And maybe the entire story follows his reuniting with her.

But what of Leia? She has gotten no buzz whatsoever. And she is the most intriguing case of all. After all, she is Luke's sister and should be able to acquire Jedi powers. But if, as rumors claim, Luke has disappeared, then how has she dealt with it? Did she ever get a chance to start her Jedi training? Or was she too old, as the canon of the cinema franchise would indicate?

More importantly, how do they contribute to overcoming whatever dark power is threatening the galaxy?

Luke's role, whether as hero or villain, is quite clear. He will either be the man to help the young heroes stave off evil or be the one to unsettle it. But where do Han and Leia fit in aside from being a sidekicks? They grew into prominent characters in the original trilogy, each undergoing his/her own psychological change. But is there room for more of that with the host of new characters? Or will they simply be there for fan service?

Han and Leia were arguably more interesting than Luke in the original trilogy. Will they continue to get that treatment under Abrams or are they simply in the new film to provide fans with some degree of closure?
