In its initial stages, Android 5.0 was called Lemon Meringue Pie. Now it has been changed to another name: Android 5.0 will be commercially known as Lollipop.

Way back in June during the Google I/O, it was announced there would be a successor to Android 4.4 KitKat. However, Google did not confirm its release date or give a hint as to the name of the successor operating system. Later it was revealed to be Android L.

While there had been many rumors and leaks going around, the final release date of Android Lollipop is not yet confirmed.

Based on the official Google statement, Android Lollipop is on Nexus 4, 5, 7 and 10 as well as on Nexus 6 and 9 and on Nexus Player, which will be available in the coming weeks, according to Time.

Since the Nexus devices will be out in November, it is safe to say that Android Lollipop will be available at the same time, including on Moto G and HTC One M8, which are Google Play edition devices.

As for its features, it is said that the battery life will be longer and the apps are not as power-hogging as before. There is also a built-in power saver that will give the user a maximum of 90 minutes extra before it finally runs out of juice.

It even has the capability to tell the user how long it will take to charge the phone.

Security is tightened and encryption will be turned on by default in case of theft. It will have multi-user features that will allow you to use your own phone in guest mode.

Notifications will be ranked so important messages will be prioritized.
