Another zombie series could be coming to TV soon and, no, it is not the planned spin-off of "The Walking Dead." The international zombie action hit flick "Resident Evil" is getting a TV series based on its movie franchise.

It was revealed at the Cannes film festival in Cannes, France, as well reported last week, that the international German film company Constantin Film will be behind the "Resident Evil" TV series. Fans of the films will have to wait a while for more zombie action.

Constantin Film has been working on these film-to-TV adaptations at a rapid pace. Constantin Film is the leading German production company, and it has been involved in TV production for many years, Variety reported. Constantin's Martin Moszkowicz dropped the bomb at Cannes.

"We are increasing our TV activities substantially both in Germany and internationally," Moszkowicz said. "Fiction series would be the focus of the growth," Variety reported. The company wants to focus more on various international TV drama series. For over two years, Constantin Film has been working on it.

Do not be fooled, the "Resident Evil" movie franchise is viable. The first film made nearly $20 million and it was ranked at No. 2 at the Box Office. And its second film made a little over $21 million. The last movie -- "Resident Evil: Retribution" -- made a little over $20 million, and it was ranked at No. 1 at the Box Office.

However, do not kill a zombie or hold your breath for the "Resident Evil" TV series just yet. At the moment, a representative for Constantin Film has only confirmed the "Mortal Instruments" film-to-TV adaptation, and that has been finalized, Entertainment Weekly reported. The TV project for "Resident Evil" has to wait until after "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" comes out in 2016.

With Constantin Film vying for the "Resident Evil" TV series then this could mean that the rumored "Arklay" -- which was based off of "Resident Evil" -- could be dead and never resurrected, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The sixth movie, "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter," was originally scheduled to come out this year, but then it was shelved. And, it has no exact release date, IGN reported. It is also uncertain if the TV series will even include the characters from the films, but it does not rule it out either.

So the film-to-TV adaptation of "Resident Evil" is not coming soon, but it is on the horizon for Constantin Film. Moszkowicz is hopeful.

"Constantin has a lot of feature film brands and we are moving them into television. For instance, we own the rights to the book series 'The Mortal Instruments,' and we just hired a showrunner in Los Angeles, and our offices in Los Angeles and Canada are starting production next year on at least two or three international shows," Moszkowicz said, Variety reported.
