Fashion Designer Oscar de la Renta died of cancer on Monday at the age of 82. Celebrities and fans expressed their condolences for his passing on social media and other platforms.

Gloria Estefan, who recently was inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame tweeted, "RIP iconic designer Oscar de la Renta, who was a big part of three of my life's biggest moments. Much love and piece to his family and all who loved him."

Taylor Swift tweeted, "My all-time favorite designer has passed away. Oscar, it was an honor to wear your creations and to know you. In loving memory."

Tommy Hilfiger said, "He was a true gentleman of American fashion."

Many first ladies wore the elegant designs of Oscar de la Renta. Michelle Obama wore one of his designs on Oct. 8 at a cocktail party according to the International Business Times. First Ladies, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush and Nancy Reagan all wore his designs.

In a joint statement on their website, Hillary and Bill Clinton expressed their sadness of the passing of their dear friend, Oscar de la Renta.

Some of the statement read, "His singular talent and exquisite taste elevated American fashion, and his warmth and friendship will be missed by our family and all whose lives he touched in his extraordinary journey. We will always be grateful for the love he showed us, and for sharing his talent on some of the most important occasions of our lives."

The Dominican Republic born designer fought cancer for a decade and worked up until his death. Recently he designed Amal Clooney's wedding dress and had designed Jenna Bush's dress in the past. There are even gowns created for his 2015 bridal collection. His official website displays a layout of two pages of dresses for brides and flower girls.
