"Star Wars Episode VII" seems to be heading down the road of nostalgia with the return of major characters.

It seems that director J.J. Abrams and company want to remind fans of the original trilogies' glory and make them forget how much they disliked the mediocre prequel films.

Not only is Abrams bringing back the original heroes, but he is shooting the movie on celluloid. But recent leaked art work has proven that he is taking another step toward reliving the glory days.

New concept art has shown Darth Vader's mask making appearances throughout the film. And if some rumors are to be believed, the Sith Lord himself will show up at some point in a flashback.

This should not be particularly shocking. A flashback in "Star Wars" is unprecedented, but it almost seemed like an obligation to bring back the fallen villain. After all, Vader is the character most commonly associated with the franchise. Vader, in some ways, IS "Star Wars."

But he is not the only character that holds an iconic place in the franchise. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a small green puppet captured the hearts and minds of many film lovers. He would return in the final chapter of the original trilogy to meet his fate, but he would be revived, albeit in an odd-looking puppet and then CGI form for the prequels. His name is Yoda and he is also up there with Vader as the most iconic character in the franchise.

Yoda is the embodiment of the Jedi Master. "Episode II" seemed to mess up his identity as the controlled Jedi Master whose strength came through the force and none of the ninja nonsense that George Lucas imposed on him. As if that wasn't enough to damage his reputation, who could forget the fact that his lack of a thumb was the reason that Emperor Palpatine gained dominion over the entire galaxy?

If Abrams is so adamant about redeeming the original characters in his new film, then maybe Yoda should get a chance to remind viewers why they loved him.

There are rumors that Luke is actually hiding on Dagobah, the planet where he originally met Yoda, and it would probably be the ideal way to reintroduce the iconic character. He may be dead, but as Obi-Wan proved, force ghosts can materialize when needed to give their friends help and advice. If rumors are true and Luke is struggling with containing the darkness within him, then who better to provide him with some guidance than the green Jedi Master himself? If Darth Vader is getting a cameo in a flashback and through the appearance of his mask, then Frank Oz should definitely get a chance to show off the puppet of the beloved character.

Not only is Yoda presented as a puppet, but he also gets chance to return to the place that he never should have left -- Dagobah. It would be the ultimately fan service and the right way to honor a fan favorite.

From a marketing perspective, this is a no-brainer for Disney. Bringing back Yoda gives them a memorable character that people remember and will gravitate towards. The same goes for Vader and it seems that the company is already pulling out the stops on that one.

Of course, the film is close to wrapping and there is no knowing whether there is any hope that this will happen. It should be interesting to see how and if this develops.
