The first of ABC's new fall lineup of television series to be cancelled is "Manhattan Love Story." The network announced the news Friday.

The half-hour comedy scored poorly in ratings in its premiere, drawing 4.3 million viewers, and only struggled further for the subsequent four aired episodes. The most recently broadcasted episode drew fewer than three million viewers.

This cancellation came later than usual for poorly-performing network sitcoms as ABC waited to see if audiences were not watching the show live, but instead recording for later viewing. "Manhattan Love Story" did not meet the network's recorded viewing hopes either. Negative reviews also contributed to the network pulling the plug on "Manhattan."

Beginning Nov. 4, the show's Tuesday night slot will be filled by back-to-back episodes of fellow first-season series "Selfie." This show has also not been green-lighted for a second season yet, but will premiere its next nine episodes for the season, according to ABC.

"Manhattan Love Story" centered on a young couple in New York looking for romance, played by Analeigh Tipton and Jake McDorman. The format included inner monologues from the main characters that revealed their true feelings about other people in their lives.

According to the New York Times, this was one in a string of recent romantic comedy TV series on networks this fall, very few of which succeeded.

Despite the cancellation of "Manhattan Love Story," ABC overall has had a strong batch of new premieres this fall. "Black-ish" and "How to Get Away with Murder" have both been picked up for full seasons, and "Murder" has been a breakout hit this season amongst all network shows.

The next set of series lined up for midseason premieres on ABC are "Fresh Off the Boat," a comedy, and "Galavant," which The Hollywood Reporter called a "high-concept musical fairy tale."
