The daughter of Houston Mayor Annise Parker was barred from taking a driving test "because she has two moms," according to the politician.

Parker is the first openly-gay mayor elected to manage a major American city and announced Thursday that the Department of Public Safety refused to accept her youngest daughter Marquitta's documents that she filled out to sign up for the driving test. Reportedly, the issue was that the papers listed Parker and her partner Kathy Hubbard as Marquitta's parents.

The mayor shared the news via social media.

"Daughter needs drivers test. Hall all docs, some in MomA [Annise] name, some MomK [Kathy Hubbard], but w/ birth cert showing both," she tweeted.

The mayor said she had to make three trips on an "unnecessary paper chase" until the DPS realized the mistake.

"Thank you to the DPS clerk & supervisor in the Rosenberg office who took the time to read my daughters documentation & realize it was OK," Parker said Friday afternoon.

The DPS said the matter was not related to Marquitta's parents, but a lack of correct documents.

"All individuals applying for their first Texas driver license must provide a variety of documents to prove their identity, Social Security Number, US citizenship or lawful presence status, and Texas residency," press secretary Tom Vinger said to the Lone Star Q. "In this case, the adult applicant did not initially present sufficient documentation to prove residency. Once she provided the required documentation, she was able to complete the transaction ... There is no indication that any delay in the process was related to same-sex marriage."

Marquitta is the youngest of three children Parker and Hubbard have together; she has an older sister Daniela and brother Jovon.

While Texas does not recognize same-sex marriages, Parker and Hubbard were married earlier this year in California after being together for 23 years.
