Durham police arrested North Carolina teacher Michelle Smith White for having an illegal sexual relationship with an underage female student. The relationship between the teacher and the student began in 2012 and may have also involved White's husband.

Durham police served a search warrant, according to the New York Daily News, which allowed them to search White's home and seize various objects, including photographs. Police were also allowed to photograph tattoos on White's body, which included the student's initials and "artist rendering which would be symbolic of the juvenile," the warrant stated.

White, 37, had been a dance teacher at the high school but resigned in April as the school began a second investigation into her relationship with the student.

White began her relationship with the female student in question in 2012 when the student was 15 years old, reports WRAL.

Though the relationship began as a friendship, it reportedly became sexual lately and culminated with a possible threesome with White, the student and White's husband, Philip White. Police reached this conclusion after discovering various photographs of the couple with the teenager as well as a binder full of notes written by Philip White addressed to the teenager.

Other items police confiscated were a laptop computer, two tablets, a video camera and a handwritten card for the girl.

The Durham Sheriff's Office affidavit reported that the girl's parents asked White to stop texting their daughter back in April, but she continued a month later. Searching through the texts, police discovered the word "threesome" and suggested "the involvement of Ms White's husband."

According to the News and Observer, White started teaching at Charles E. Jordan High School in 1997 and resigned in April of this year when the school began its second investigation into her. She was first investigated by school officials in 2012 and was suspended.

White was arrested in July for "taking indecent liberties and sexual offense with a student."
