After news broke that Esteban Loaiza was suing for $35 million because of Jenni Rivera's death, the former baseball player received plenty of criticism.

For example, TMZ titled its article, "Husband She Ditched Wants Millions For His Loneliness," and plenty of other publications pointed out that Loaiza and Jenni were separated before her death.

One of Loaiza's strongest opponents has been Chiquis Rivera. Chiquis said that Loaiza was doing was in bad taste and that the money he was seeking should go to Jenni's siblings.

Loaiza has broken his silence and explained that he never intended to take advantage of Jenni's death.

"A few weeks ago, the press speculated and the public express their opinion when news resurfaced about the lawsuit involving the tragic death where Jenni Rivera and members of her team lost their lives," the statement started. "For this reason, I want to give insight on important information over this matter."

Loaiza explained that after Jenni's death in December 2012, he was approached by a group of lawyers on more than one occasion. He later decided to give his consent so that the group of lawyers could take on the case.

This year on Oct. 7, details about the lawsuit came about. Loaiza said he has been in contact with the lawyers and has made a decision.

"Even after hearing all the details, it became clear that it was not my intention to proceed with the matter and I decided to end the legal process and override the lawsuit," he said. "I do this because I think it's right. I want to make it clear that my intention was never to profit from this tragedy."

Loaiza added that he had a successful baseball career for 21 years, and 14 years were spent in the major leagues. He said he also made good investments and doesn't need any money.
