Iggy Azalea revealed the inspiration behind her stage name recently: The Australian rapper, born as Amethyst Amelia Kelly, got her stage name from a pet and family members.

She named her dog Iggy, after American singer and songwriter Iggy Pop. Iggy, the dog that is, survived a snake attack, and in his honor, Iggy Azalea made a name-plate necklace in his honor.

Azalea wore the necklace almost everywhere she went.

"Everybody started to think that my name was Iggy, so ... I took it on board and started rapping with it," she said. As her career started to take off, her grandfather suggested that a one-word stage name is not the way to go.

She then added Azalea to her name, after a street name that her family lived on.

"It sounds very feminine, and I thought it would balance out 'Iggy' being so masculine," the rapper said.

Many artists find ways to come up with their stage names. Some go with their real names or an abbreviated version like Jennifer Lopez also known as J. Lo.

The two were spotted together for a Halloween celebration Friday. J. Lo dressed as a devil and Iggy as one of the characters in the movie "White Chicks."

A few weeks ago, Snoop Dogg made a meme on Instagram with Azalea's picture for a "White Chicks" sequel. Both artists went back and forth on Twitter and Instagram taking jabs at each other.

The social media feud finally ended when rapper T.I. made a phone call to Snoop Dogg.

"I stepped in when it became a public topic of discussion," T.I. told MTV.

"When it stopped being between two people and it was being observed by the world, and it was almost like people were tuning in just to see what was happening next."

Snoop Dog is a long-time friend to T.I. and Iggy Azalea collaborated with him in music projects. Her name rings bells.
