The high profile Steve Jobs biopic seems like it will no longer be produced by Sony.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the Jobs biopic has been put into turnaround by Sony Pictures. The movie is one of the most anticipated films of the year, as it is supposed to be directed by Danny Boyle and will be written by Aaron Sorkin, who wrote "The Social Network" and "Moneyball."

The movie is also slated to be produced by the award-winning team behind the "The Social Network" -- Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady.

Additionally, the Academy Award-nominated actor Michael Fassbender is attached to play the Apple co-founder. Producers have also been approaching other actors including Scarlett Johansson and Seth Rogen for the role of Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak.

The latest adaptation has experienced problems from the beginning of production. Originally, David Fincher was slated to direct but backed out due to disagreements over salary with Sony.

Leonardo DiCaprio was once attached to the role, but later backed out as he stated he would take a break from acting. Later, Christian Bale was attached but he also withdrew.

The project is slated to be based on Walter Isaacson's biography of Jobs and is now catching the interest of Universal. The company is eyeing the film and is said to be interested in the project with an eye on next year's awards season. However, Universal has not confirmed anything.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony put the film in a turnaround because Boyle needed the film to go into production in January due to another project that he is slated to direct. According to the source, Sony currently has a number of films in production and wanted to film at a later time.

Additionally, Fassbender is attached to "X-Men: Apocalypse" and will film in the spring. As a result, the actor would only be available to film at a later time.

Other studios have yet to comment if they are interested or not. At one point, it was rumored that Annapurna Pictures, the production and financing company by Megan Ellison, was to be involved as a partner on the feature project and had backed out. The company has had an immaculate run of films with various award winners including "The Master," "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Foxcatcher." However, an insider of the company stated that the company was never involved.

The Steve Jobs biopic will be the second film about the founder of Apple. Last year, Open Road Films released a movie directed by Joshua Michael Stern which starred Aston Kutcher. The movie closed the Sundance Film festival, but scored negative reviews. The movie opened late in August after several delays and flopped. Open Road failed to give it a proper marketing campaign. In the end, the movie made $16 million.

The upcoming film is the one fans have been waiting for and it seems the latest setback will delay the movie. Many had hoped it would be a major Oscar contender for next year. However, unless the film finds a studio, it seems like it will be destined for 2016.

Boyle won the Academy Award in 2010 for his work on "Slumdog Millionaire." The director is also known for his Academy Award-nominated film "127 Hours" and "Trance." He has also directed "The Beach," "Sunshine," and "Millions."

Meanwhile, Fassbender has been seen in "12 Years a Slave," "Shame" and "Fish Tank." He was last seen in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "Frank" and is next slated to star in "Macbeth" and "Assassin's Creed."
