Showtime's hit series "Shameless" is getting ready for the kickoff of its new season.

The first episode of its fifth installment is set to air on Jan. 11, 2015. And for weeks, fans and TV writers have been dissecting trailers and interviews to get a glimpse of what may be next for the Gallagher family.

Cinema Blend, for example, explains that the Gallaghers' neighborhood "will be overrun with hipsters" come January. The dysfunctional family of Frank Gallagher, a single father of six, lives in Canaryville, a neighborhood on the South Side of the Windy City.

"It seems the Chicago neighborhood may be seeing some upgrades, which may have a drastic impact on the kind of people moving in," Cinema Blend noted. "Showtime says that the Gallagher's neighborhood 'begins a move towards gentrifying.' Star Emmy Rossum puts it more bluntly by calling it an 'invasion of hipsters.'"

Based on a sneak-peak video released to promote the new installment, Fashion & Style takes note of the same theme.

"Emmy Rossum warned that the Gallaghers' neighborhood will fall victim to an urban renewal plan," the website details. "An invasion of hipsters and coffee shops will take place, and the Gallaghers are not going to be very happy about it."

The new confrontation may well make for "an amazing arc," Cinema Bend judges, which may save "Shameless" from the loss of momentum that befalls many cable series in their fifth season.

"Introducing a new and contrasting ingredient to series' recipe may be just what the show needs," the site writes. "The idea of the Gallaghers coming face-to-face with people who are likely to be their polar opposites is brimming with potential."

And it may even contribute to improving the social life for its protagonists: "It sounds like this drastic shift to the neighborhood may actually have a positive impact on the Gallagher family, with the mention of their efforts to 'reconcile their chaotic past in the hopes of building a better future.'"

"Shameless" premiered in January 2011 and is a remake of a successful British series of the same name.
