In a case of very honest behavior, a man turned over a bag full of $100,000 cash that he found in a Burger King to the authorities.

Altaf Chaus, the owner of a Burger King franchise in San Jose, California, reported an abandoned bag found in his fast-food establishment, KGO-TV reports. The blue backpack had been sitting in the restaurant for several hours on Wednesday.

Assistant manager Sahista Bakawla said she had seen the bag several times over the course of the day as she wiped down the tables. She assumed that someone would return to the Burger King to claim the backpack.

However, no one came for the item, so she took it to her boss, Chaus. When he looked inside the bag to try and find an ID or phone number to determine who left the bag, Chaus discovered it was full of crisp $50 and $100 bills, totaling $100,000.

"I open the zipper, I see lots of money, cash money," Chaus said according to NY Daily News. "One hundred dollar bills stack up like half the bag ... I said 'Wow! Today is my birthday, this is my birthday gift.'"

After Chaus' delight wore off, he called the police.

"I've been in this country 26 years, and I worked two jobs for 15 years before I bought this Burger King," Chaus said. "So I'm a very hard-working man. I don't want that money, maybe it belongs to somebody."

A customer, Mary Teixeira, was so surprised by Chaus' good deed, she stopped into the Burger King to thank him and the assistant manager for their honesty.

"I would have done the same thing but to know that someone else did it, really makes me feel good," she said according to ABC 7.

San Jose officers searched the bag further, finding that beside the money there was also a small amount of marijuana, a pack of cigarettes, a bank slip and some candy in the backpack. They are still investigating who left the stash of cash in Chaus' restaurant.
