Carlos "Kiko" Villagrán returned to Mexico to say goodbye to his former "El Chavo del Ocho" and "El Chapulín Colorado" co-star Roberto Gómez Bolaños, who was better known as Chespirito.

Chespirito died on Friday, Nov. 28, and over the weekend, there was a memorial service in honor of the comedian. Kiko was one of the many who attended the event, which was hosted and aired by Televisa, notes El Universal.

"Thank you very much for your concern," he said. "It's a very painful moment, and I love you all very much."

Although the two worked together for many years, their friendship was affected because of work. He and Chespirito battled in the courtroom over the rights of the character Quico. Villagrán ended up leaving "El Chavo del Ocho," and he had to change Quico to Kiko.

The actor explained that he and Chespirito were not quarreling.

"That never existed and especially not in these moments," he said. "Those times have long passed and they stayed far behind."

He added that the only thing that is left now is pain because a true talent is gone.

Reporters continued to question him over his feud with Chespirito, so Kiko explained that he doesn't quite remember when the two had reconciled.

"We kissed and hugged," he said. "A lot of things have happened, but nothing bad. He was retired from work, rooted in Cancun. I am totally grateful to him."

There were rumors that Chespirito's wife, Florinda Meza, did not want Kiko to participate in the event. But the two actors hugged at the ceremony, according to La Opinion.

Kiko took to Facebook to explain the encounter.

"With Florida, I only felt the need to give her a hug, so that we could share our feelings over a great being, who united all of us into a great group of coworkers and friends," he said.
