Authorities found the body of a missing Ohio State University football player on Sunday. Police said he was apparently killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to Huffington Post, police said the body of Kosta Karageorge was found near the Columbus campus following a search for the senior.

Karageorge had last been seen at his college apartment on Wednesday, when his roommates said the defensive tackle went out to go on a walk.

The students' parents filed a missing-person report Wednesday evening, and his mother, Susan, warned police that her son had suffered several concussions from playing football and had a few spells of extreme confusion in the past. According to the report, she said that at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday he sent a text message that referred to the concussions and said, "I am sorry if I am an embarrassment."

Sophia, Karageorge's sister, told The Columbus Dispatch that he was apparently upset, and his roommates had said he was dressed in black from his hat down to his boots when he left for his walk. She also said her brother left without his wallet and his motorcycle was left behind.

"We're very concerned that he's not himself and that he maybe doesn't know what's going on," she said.

During halftime at the Ohio State University men's basketball home game against James Madison, pictures of Karageorge were shown, and an announcement asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact police.

Fellow defensive lineman Michael Bennett said that when Karageorge missed practices, players began getting nervous.

Football coach Urban Meyer said Karageorge was a hard worker and an important player in practice.

University athletic officials said they were grieving after learning of Karageorge's death.

Karageorge was formerly a Buckeyes wrestler, joining the football team as a walk-on this fall. Karageorge played in one game and was slated among the two dozen seniors to be recognized at the final home game against Michigan on Saturday.
