"Mortal Kombat" is more than just two fighters fighting to the death. It's actually a soap opera of characters with storylines and rivalries.

Man Cave Daily, a CBS affiliate, caught up with Steven Beran, the director of art for "Mortal Kombat X." He has been with Mortal Kombat since 1991, so he knows that there is tons of preparation and work that goes into creating a "Mortal Kombat" game. "Mortal Kombat X" will be no different.

Beran told Man Cave that "Mortal Kombat" is not your typical fighter.

"...and now in 'Mortal Kombat X,' there's 170 staff working on the game," he said. "The game's not just a simple 'two guys facing off and fighting each other to result in a fatality' -- there's much more to it than that."

There really is more than that: there are also rivalries and histories, partnerships and just plain hatred amongst characters.

Since 1991, there has been a "Mortal Kombat" movie, action figures, a cartoon and so much more. Now, there are comic books and an upcoming game that is supposed to be the best yet.

"Mortal Kombat X" (not 10, but X) will utilize the advantages of next-generation systems and deliver an amazing visual experience that will even the most casual gamer.

Yes, there will be new characters, but some classics will remain.

"At the end of the last game, we killed off about half of the roster, so it's a good way to breathe new life, literally, into the franchise. That doesn't mean we won't have returning favorites though," Beran said.

It does not matter which characters make it into the new "Mortal Kombat"; the game is already predicted to be the best fighting game in 2015 because Ed Boon, "Mortal Kombat" creator, expects nothing less than a perfect game.

"Mortal Kombat X" will be released April 15, 2015.
