An Iowa man was sent to jail after assaulting his pregnant wife with a McDonald's McChicken sandwich Tuesday.

Reports say that 21-year-old Marvin Tramaine Hill II threw the chicken sandwich at his wife multiple times swelling her nose. He was sent to Polk County Jail on simple domestic assault charges.

Hill admitted to throwing the sandwich at his wife because he does not like them but also told Des Moines police that it was his wife that actually attacked him.

According to his statement to police, the woman woke him up from a nap with the sandwich in hand, making him so angry that he threw it at her. Hill then picked up the rest of the bun and shoved it in his wife's face.

The Iowa man used his cell phone to record his wife cleaning the food off. Footage showed the wife knocking the phone out of his hand but officials believe he made her do that so she could appear to be aggressive.

Domestic violence is marked as an epidemic in the United States. All genders and sexual orientation groups face domestic violence issues but 85 percent of the victims are women.

Domestic violence is not a singular incident, it's an insidious problem deeply rooted in our culture, according to the Huffington Post.

From 2001 to 2012, there were more American women murdered by a current or former intimate partner than the amount of casualties in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

Many women are held in domestic violence relationships through physical, financial or emotional abuse or a combination of all three. Recently, sports teams started to step up on the measures they take when a team player is caught in a domestic violence case.

When police found Hill's wife after responding to a call Tuesday, she had mayonnaise on her shirt and in her hair.

Hill remains in custody at Polk County Jail and had his weapons permit confiscated.
