Mexican-American funny man, George Lopez just signed a major production deal with Pantelion Studios, the company behind Instructions Not Included and Pulling Strings, to produce a series of films, beginning with a film about undocumented teenage Mexican-American inventors called La Vida Robot.

In Hollywood, Lopez has branded himself as "the Latino to be." He began his career as a radio show host in LA while doing standup on the side. He was able to parlay his standup routines into an opportunity to produce a show with Sandra Bullock about his own experiences, and that of the Hispanic American, on ABC's George Lopez (2002-2007). Then, Lopez was featured on Inside the NFL and Reno 911!, before scoring his own late night talk show on TBS, Lopez Tonight (2009-2011). Now, Lionsgate, parent company to Pantelion Films, will be backing Lopez's newest show, FX's Saint George. Saint George will be about a newly divorced Mexican-American entrepreneur; and the show will also star Danny Trejo and Adrina Barraza.

"We're thrilled to be in the George Lopez business," said Pantelion Films CEO and Televisa USA managing director Paul Presburger in a statement, "George is a comic superstar and brand name in the Latino community, and he reflects the kind of A-List Latino films and TV talent we're recruiting." Pantelion and Lionsgate representatives continued on to say that Lopez's comedy was tailor-made to meet demands, and he is one of the foremost comic actors in America.

Lopez's presence in mainstream media, even in a time when being Latino was less popular, demonstrates how valuable he is a comedian, film actor and television personality. Aside from upcoming film projects with Pantelion, and Saint George, Lopez will be launching television projects with South Shore, one of those being an action drama with Stan Lee. Lopez is also in line to voice Speedy Gonzales in the upcoming film.
