Christian Bale has played an eclectic amount of roles from Moses in the most recent "Exodus: Gods and Kings," to a serial killer in "American Psycho," just to name a few. Bale is adept at playing both physically and mentally emotional roles.

Bale's newest film and its trailer "Knight of Cups" is more of a mystery than any of the roles he has ever played.

Bale is the lead in an all-star cast for the film "Knight of Cups." The mystery and strangeness of the film and its trailer comes from the mind and direction of Terrence Malick, who directed "The Tree of Life" and "The Thin Red Line." The movie itself was wrapped in secrecy and no one quite knew what it was about, until now sort-of.

"Knight of Cups'" official trailer was released exclusively via the FilmNation website. The film is intended to debut at the 65th annual Berlin Film Festival next year. Malick's films tend to use biblical and philosophical symbolism. The description of the film points to these motifs.

FilmNation presents the synopsis of "Knight of Cups": "Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep."

The film project took more than three years, and even now with this description and the trailer, it is still a head-scratcher. The trailer does feature Bale, along with Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett. Blanchett and Portman appear in various stages of the trailer, Us Weekly reported.

Bale is the bewildered man faced with a problem about how he must lead his life now. Bale is living a crazy life in Hollywood, Variety reported.

Bale's character Rick says, "All those years living the life of someone I didn't even know."

The film also stars Antonio Banderas, Ben Kingsley, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Imogen Poots and Wes Bentley, among others.
