The Red Sox are hoping to build on the momentum gained two days ago when the team takes the field tonight in Detroit, but what about the Tigers?

As bad as it was for Detroit to suffer a come-from-behind, walk-off loss in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series, the Tigers might be in perfect position. Detroit is back in the home confines of Comercia Park and Red Sox nation had a couple days to come back down to Earth following the wild game.

The Tigers will send ace Justin Verlander out to the mound to try and take the lead back from the Red Sox in Game 3, which is slated to start at 4 p.m. John Lackey, who struggled and gave up four runs in his previous start, will be on the hill for Boston.

The Red Sox looked like a sinking team before the Game 2 rally changed the series around. Detroit took care of business in the first game and appeared to be on its way to a 2-game series lead heading back to Detroit, but David Ortiz's grand slam in the late innings sent Fenway Park into a frenzy. Then, just shortly after in the ninth inning, the walk-off hit sent the Red Sox to Detroit with the right attitude.

"I think we certainly gained some confidence in the last couple innings," Boston manager John Farrell said yesterday. "The work of Sanchez and Scherzer has been nothing short of spectacular. ... We feel like tomorrow's starter in Verlander is going to be a similar, if not a more difficult, challenge than what we faced already."

Meanwhile, in the National League, the Dodgers were slipping away quickly after dropping the first two games of the NLCS in St. Louis. In what seems to be a classical case of true home field advantage, the home team has won all three games so far in the best-of-seven series in Los Angeles and St. Louis. The Dodgers bounced back thanks to the return of Hanley Ramirez, who had a hit in his first at-bat back after getting hit by a pitch in the opening game. The Cardinals are hoping to find some offense in the next game, especially from slugger Carlos Beltran who is now 2-for-11 in the series. Game 4 is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET
