As the NFL closes in on the midway point in the football season, teams are left with just a short window of time to make some trades before the trade deadline.

As was mentioned earlier in the week, Giants receiver Hakeem Nicks is one of the centerpieces of the trade talks and rumors in the league. With his team's ship sinking fast en route to an already disappointing 0-6 season thus far, the Giants could be looking to take advantage of the opportunity to stock up on draft picks while shipping away a receiver that is about to enter free-agency. As Nicks prepares to enter free agency, he would only be worth a late season rental.

Giants' outspoken safety Antrel Rolle - who has spent much of this season basically guaranteeing that his team would win games that they have lost - questioned the idea and seemed to be puzzled as to why Big Blue would give up on the season already.

"Why would we trade anyone?" safety Antrel Rolle said to the New York Daily News. "I think that's the least of our worries right now. I think we just need to focus on getting better as a football team. This season's not over yet."

Another team that could look to improve before the deadline is the Dallas Cowboys, especially as the team approaches a key matchup against division rival Philadelphia. Dallas has suffered a handful of injuries and people have started to wonder whether Dallas might trade for replacements to help in the playoff race.

"You are always open, always listening,'' Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said before mentioning that trade deadline deals are not always as likely to happen.

In other key trade deadline moves in recent years, the Patriots acquired Aqib Talib from the Buccaneers in 2012 while the Bengals shipped Carson Palmer to the Raiders in 2011. Ronnie Brown and Brandon Lloyd were also traded that year.

The 2013 trade deadline is Oct. 29.
