Microsoft is going the extra mile to improve online gaming by offering dedicated servers for the Xbox One.

Xbox Live's Lead Program Manager, John Bruno, wrote on Xbox.com this week about the Xbox Live Cloud and the benefits that it will bring to the upcoming game console. The Cloud, according to Bruno, is a combination of servers carrying heavy workloads across Microsoft datacenters. Microsoft jumped on the opportunity to use this to improve online gaming experiences.

"We realized that there was an incredible opportunity to bring together the resources and global scale of Windows Azure, with the game services of Xbox Live to build a cloud computing platform that was uniquely focused on gaming and game creators," Bruno said. "Our intent was to enable developers to take advantage of server resources in their games without having to deal with the challenges that come with building, managing and running servers at scale."

Bruno said that the one of the key differences that Microsoft is pursuing for the new gaming generation is a strong focus on working from internal servers.

". . . we really want to help game creators draw on the ever-expanding power of our server infrastructure to drive continuous innovation in their game experiences - innovations that translate directly to better, more engaging gaming experiences," Bruno said.

The news to improve the servers comes at a time when the highly acclaimed and popular Grand Theft Auto 5 video game has experienced a number of problems with online game play. This has even prompted Rockstar Games to give free virtual "money" to gamers as a way of thanking everyone for the cooperation as the company tries to improve the online gaming experience.
