In an effort to reduce the number of affected victims of the recent aalmonella outbreak 2013 in the US, Mexico decided to ban any Foster Farms chicken imports from a total of three plants.

Oregon Live reports that the officials from the US Department of Agriculture mentioned that it was a surprise for Mexico to request a delisting of a facility due to a public health concern. The ones delisted were California plants, one in Fresno and the other in Livingston.

It was on October 7 when the USDA gave a threat to put down the three Foster Farms plants that were discovered to have been positive in having high Salmonella rates. According to the officials of the department, the three plants were found out to have "poor sanitary dressing practices" and even mentioned "fecal material on carcasses" among others.

As a proactive response to the alarming health manner, the food safety manager of the company, Bob O'Connor said that the Foster Farms have taken the step to implement "new processes" to meet the set performance standard of the USDA.

Salmonella Outbreak 2013 Treatment and Prevention

Ron Foster, the company president of Foster Farms, made an apology for the spreading Salmonella outbreak. They put all the blame to chickens being undercooked for Salmonella is usually wiped out when it is cooked up to 165 degrees.

USA Today wrote that the Salmonella Outbreak includes seven various strains. It has eventually garnered much attention from different states especially with the cases rising up to as high as 340 from about 20 states. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention team, most of the salmonella strains are resistant to antibiotics.

WebMD wrote that one of the main steps to treat Salmonella is to prevent yourself from dehydration since you would most probably suffer from diarrhea. Antibiotics are given only when infection has spread all over the body. Doctors recommend eating nutritious food but stay away from the ones which have high sugar and fat content. Stop from eating spicy food as well as alcohol.

It is highly emphasized that foods should ideally be cooked until they are well for Salmonella to be prevented. Wash hands thoroughly especially after having to deal with animal feces.
