If the rumor mill is correct, then it looks like Samsung is developing an "Edge" variant of its upcoming Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone.

According to an unnamed inside source via SamMobile, Samsung will indeed release a separate Edge model of the Galaxy S6, much like it did with the Galaxy Note 4 (the Galaxy Note Edge). Samsung has not confirmed the rumors, and usually doesn't confirm anything until the device is actually unveiled, so be sure to take the news with a grain of salt. Samsung is expected to pull back the curtains on the Galaxy S6 at an Unpacked launch event around the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the beginning of March.

What is an Edge variant of the Galaxy S6, you ask? It's basically a Galaxy S6 with a curved display that drips over the two edges, adding extra screen real estate and some extra functions. Although the Galaxy Note Edge was more of a technical showing for Samsung, which wanted to show off its innovation capabilities, the Galaxy S6 Edge will most likely have an extra couple things to boot. Most of the Edge model's interface is said to be similar to the Galaxy Note Edge, complete with panels for news, favorite apps, contacts, and more. The Galaxy S6 Edge, however, will feature the ability to set the main Edge panel based on the user's dominant hand and receive calls or notifications through the Edges for when the phone is face down.

In the end, the Galaxy S6 Edge will be more expensive than the regular Galaxy S6, and it's unclear how popular the curved display will prove. It's even more unclear on what the actual Galaxy S6 core will contain, as Samsung has been reported to be testing many designs at the moment. The Galaxy S5's poor showing last year has Samsung back at the drawing board, determined to make an impact in a market it once captured so dominantly.

Some rumored specs for the Samsung Galaxy S6 include The device is also reported to introduce a new, streamlined version of TouchWiz, Samsung's front end interface that has drawn criticism in recent years for being too clunky and filled with too many gimmicks.
