Google's Nexus 6 smartphone looks like it's still a hard catch to come by. Despite some paltry recent restocking, the Nexus 6 is now sold out -- again -- on Google Play.

Despite making a brief appearance back in stock on Google Play (and even then, it was only the 32GB model), buyers are now treated to the dreaded "We are out of inventory. Please check back soon" message. This applies across the board, for both 32GB and 64GB variants and both colors, Midnight Blue and Cloud White. In other words, snagging an unlocked Nexus 6 through Google is out of the question -- most likely due to the intense amount of smartphone shopping done around just-completed holiday season.

There is some hope, however. Carriers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular are accepting orders, although shipping times will vary. T-Mobile, for instance, states that the 32GB Nexus 6 will ship out immediately while the 64GB Nexus 6 ships out in 7-10 business days. The only major U.S. carrier not selling the Nexus 6 at the moment is Verizon, although Big Red is expected to eventually release it as well.

Prices from carriers will vary slightly from the Google Play unlocked tag. A 32GB Nexus 6 through Google Play costs $649, while the 64GB Nexus 6 runs $699. You'll end up paying around the same amount through carriers if you opt to pay off the device's full price over the course of two years, although contracts and their respective subsidies can bring the Nexus 6 down to around $200. Just remember you'll be locked in and have to pay an early termination fee if you decide to switch carriers.

The Nexus 6 marks a departure from previous Nexus smartphones. The largest of the bunch, the Nexus 6 is also the most expensive. Whereas as previous Nexus smartphones focused at giving consumers a budget-minded smartphone with the right specs to keep up with the times, the Motorola-manufactured Nexus 6 is designed more as a premium flagship.

Specs include a 5.96-inch QHD AMOLED display capable of 493 pixels per inch at a resolution of 2560X1440, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset clocked at 2.7GHz, and 3GB RAM. The rear-facing camera can take photographs at 13 megapixels and 4K video at 30fps, while the front shooter captures stills at 2 megapixels and is capable of HD video conferencing. The Nexus 6 also comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop, the latest version of Android, right out of the box.
