Fox News may see some legal troubles coming their way after the mayor of Paris threatened to sue the American news channel over its allegations regarding "no-go zones" in the French capital.

Although the network has apologized, the city remains determined to pursue legal action.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo told CNN that she would seek legal action against Fox News after the conservative news network made on-air claims of Paris "no-go zones" where non-Muslims do not venture and police do not go, according to CNN Money.

"When we're insulted, and when we've had an image, then I think we'll have to sue, I think we'll have to go to court, in order to have these words removed," the socialist mayor said. "The image of Paris has been prejudiced, and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced."

Hidalgo also took to Facebook to say that charges will be brought against Fox News for their comments on the matter.

However, the network has apologized for its comments.

According to the Washington Post, Michael Clemente, the executive vice president of news, released a statement apologizing about what happened but criticized Hidalgo's actions.

"We empathize with the citizens of France as they go through a healing process and return to everyday life. However, we find the Mayor's comments regarding a lawsuit misplaced," he said.

Similarly, Julie Banderas, host of Fox Report, the show that made the claim, made a correction on air for what was said, reports the New York Times.

"Over the course of this last week, we have made some regrettable errors on air regarding the Muslim population in Europe, particularly with regard to England and France," she said, referring another mistake stated by a Fox News analyst. "Now this applies especially to discussions of so-called no-go zones, areas where non-Muslims allegedly are not allowed in and police supposedly won't go. To be clear, there is no formal designation of these zones in either country and no credible information to support the assertion that there are specific areas in these countries that exclude individuals based solely on their religion."

The issue was brought to the attention of the French people through a comedic show. "Le Petit Journal," a show similar to "The Daily Show," mocked Fox News' allegations that there were "Muslim-only" areas in Paris and went to look for them dressed as Fox News commentators, according to Mediaite.
