A Miami Dolphins player who made headlines during the summer for wearing a "Free Hernandez" hat has been served with a grand jury subpoena as investigators look to talk to him about the Aaron Hernandez case.

Mike Pouncey has been a friend of Hernandez since the two went to college together at Florida and investigators are interested in learning whether Pouncey knows anything about the interstate gun trafficking accusations pertaining to Hernandez. Although he may not be facing charges, he will likely be called on as a witness in the case. Pouncey was served at Gillette Stadium as his Dolphins were in the area for a regular season matchup against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Hernandez has remained jailed since he was arrested in June and charged in the murder of Odin Lloyd, a former semipro football player who was friends with Hernandez. The former Patriots tight end has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him; a number of his associates as well as his fiancé have all been charged with something in relation to the case.

Hernandez has also found himself embroiled in yet another serious incident as he is now being investigated for his role in a 2012 double murder following a night at a Boston club. He fits the description provided by a person who was an apparent witness that night.

The Patriots swiftly released Hernandez on the same day he was arrested and the rest of his contract was canceled. Despite this, the NFL Players Association did request that the Patriots pay Hernandez the money they owed to him for offseason programs prior to his arrest.
