According to Entertainment Weekly, Oscar winning composer Alan Menken spoke with EW Radio Thursday morning, Jan. 22, to talk about his work on "Galavant," ABC's fairy tale-themed musical comedy TV series, mentioning that he's composing music for a Broadway-bound stage musical of the Robin Williams film "Mrs. Doubtfire" with fellow Tony Award winners.

"It's going very well, it's in its early stages, and that's probably all I can say. We're really enjoying working on it," Menken told EW.

David Zippel, who previously collaborated with Menken on the Disney animated musical "Hercules" and "Mulan," is writing the lyrics for the upcoming musical project. In 1990, Zippel won the Tony Award for Best Original Score for his work on "City of Angels" alongside Cy Coleman. Three-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein ("Torch Song Trilogy," "Hairspray," "La Cage Aux Folles"), who appeared as Williams's gay brother and makeup guru in the 1993 film, will be penning the book. Fierstein previously collaborated with Menken for the 2012 Broadway stage musical "Newsies," alongside Alan Menken and Jack Feldman.

At the moment, Menken appears to be remarkably prolific: His forthcoming endeavors include a stage musical adaptation of the 1994 film "Corrina, Corrina," with six-time Tony Award-winning actress Audra McDonald replacing Whoopi Goldberg in the title role and the recently revealed Roy Rogers musical "Happy Trails," which is slated for a 2016 Broadway arrival.

Based on Anne Fine's lauded 1987 novel "Alias Madame Doubtfire," "Mrs. Doubtfire" was directed by Chris Columbus ("Home Alone," "The Goonies") and distributed by 20th Century Fox in 1993. The film stars Oscar winners Robin Williams, who also served as co-producer, and Sally Field.

The movie follows three children in the wake of a horrible divorce and their dedicated father (Williams), an unemployed voice actor who dons a disguise to spend more time with them. The film generated massive acclaim and won the Academy Award for Best Makeup the following year.

Williams provided the voice for the role of Genie in the Disney animated feature "Aladdin," which Menken scored. A stage adaptation of the film arrived on Broadway last season, with James Monroe Iglehart taking home the Tony for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance.
