Black Canary fans will have a lot to look forward to when "Arrow" returns to The CW with an all-new episode this Wednesday.

After a long hiatus, "Arrow" aired its winter premiere, "Left Behind," which picked up three days after the midseason finale last fall. During the episode, Oliver was left for dead after he was defeated in a fatal battle with Ra's al Ghul. However, the vigilante's life was restored in last week's episode after Maseo recovered his body and Tatsu used special substances to bring him back to life, reports Cinema Blend.

Team Arrow, however, was left believing that their beloved leader was dead. In his absence, the team stepped up to fill in for Oliver by combating street crime in Starling City and taking on Danny "Brick" Brickwell, a villain who recruited an army of criminals to help him capture The Glades.

In the upcoming episode, entitled "Midnight City," Team Arrow will continue their quest to stop Brickwell while Laurel will step into the role of the Black Canary.

However, Laurel's transition into a vigilante will not be smooth, warned executive producer Marc Guggenheim in a preview video.

"Even though she's dressing up as the Black Canary, she's still a long ways away from being a proficient fighter," he said.

As a result, the amateur fighter will put herself and Team Arrow at risk. The trailer video also teases that the new Black Canary will have an encounter with Arsenal.

According to Screen Crush, The CW's synopsis of "Midnight City" reads as follows:

"Arsenal (Colton Haynes) and Diggle (David Ramsey) confront Laurel (Katie Cassidy) about trying to step into her sister's shoes and warn her to stop before she gets herself killed. However, when Brick (guest star Vinnie Jones) kidnaps the city's Aldermen and threatens to kill them all unless the police evacuate The Glades, it's all suits on deck.

"Meanwhile, Ray (Brandon Routh) steps in to help Lance (Paul Blackthorne) and the police force fight Brick, showing Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) a new side of her boss. Malcom (John Barrowman) tells Thea (Willa Holland) that Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable) is after him and his family and they must leave town immediately."

"Arrow" Season 3, Episode 11, "Midnight City," airs on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
