Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla's memory will be honored with a two-day music and film festival in her hometown, Voxxi reports.

The Quintanilla family and Texas city Corpus Christi will commemorate the deceased pop star with a festival called Fiesta de la Flor (Festival of the Flower) in April. The event coincides with the 20th anniversary of the star's death.

The event's name pays homage to Selena's 1992 hit single "Como la Flor."

The singer's 1990 album "Ven Conmigo" was the first Tejano album recorded by a female artist to achieve gold status.

The festival is expected to take place the weekend of April 17 and 18, in honor of the star's birthday April 16, 1971.

Local news in Texas reports the Corpus Christi City Council gave approval for the festival to use Bayfront Park for the event.

"We are working with them [the Quintanilla family] to make sure the park and adjacent areas are ready to go for a great festival in April that will celebrate music and film and will be great," said Interim Parks & Recreation Director Stacie Talbert to Southern Texas' Kiii TV.

The city speculates the festival will bring in 50,000 visitors and $1 million to the local economy.

The festival's website boasts a lineup of Grammy winners including Selena's brother's band A.B. & Lost Kumbai Kings, Selena's husband Chris Perez, Los Lobos and Little Joe y La Familia. The festival will also show an outdoor screening of "Selena," the 1997 biopic starring Jennifer Lopez as Selena.

Admission for the festival is $5 a day for adults. For children ages 5-12 it's $2 for and free for children younger than two.

In 1987 Selena won Best Female Vocalist at the Tejano Music Awards. The singer shot to popularity with American and Hispanic audiences with her band Selena y Los Dinos in the early 1990s. Selena eventually went on to win a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Album in 1994 for her live album "Selena Live!"

The superstar was killed March 31, 1995 at the age of 23 by her fan club's president, Yolanda Saldivar.
