Earlier this week, "Top Gun" star Val Kilmer was rushed to the hospital after he was found bleeding from his throat at his Malibu home, TMZ reports.

Vilmer was admitted to UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica where TMZ claims that doctors performed surgery on Kilmer's throat.

Vilmer has since been released from the hospital and TMZ sources claim that he is recovering. TMZ sources also allege that Kilmer's family is happy that he is healing but are still upset with him for not being proactive about his health in the past.

TMZ reports that back in October, Kilmer suffered from a throat infection that caused his tongue to swell and prohibited him from speaking to a judge over a dispute with his landlord in small claims court.

Since being released from the hospital, Kilmer has posted a Facebook message to thanks his fans for their support, ABC News reports.

Kilmer denied reports claiming that he has a throat tumor and urged his fans to ignore the rumors. Kilmer also slammed the TMZ report claiming that he underwent surgery for his throat.

"I have not had a tumor, or a tumor operations, or any operation. I had a complication where the best way to receive care was to stay under the watchful eye of the ucla ICU," Kilmer wrote.

ABC News reports that prior to being rushed to the hospital, Kilmer was actively working on several upcoming films including "Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn," which will hit theaters in April.

The film is directed by Terrence Malick and also stars Christian Bale, Michael Fassbender and Natalie Portman.

Kilmer is also set to star in the film about Mark Twain, titled "Mark Twain and Mary Baker Eddy."

Last month, Kilmer took to Facebook to describe his character in the Mark Twain film as his "dream role," says ABC News.

He wrote, "I'm preparing as most of you know, for my dream role, Mark Twain in a film I've written and will direct about his obsession with Mary Baker Eddy. Mark Twain was a thin man, and finally after the usual amount of effort, I'm thin again too."
