After a rather slow Super Bowl weekend, the studios have decided to release a number of DVDs. The week includes a number of Indie dramas, two horror flicks and one comic action flick:

"Ouija"

Starring Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto and Daren Kagasoff, this new horror film tells the story of a group of friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. The film is based on an old board game that Universal acquired the rights to. The film score negative reviews, but surprised at the box office as it made $50 million. The horror flick comes out at a time when Hollywood is not offering Horror movies in theaters. As a result, fans of this genre will definitely be the target.

"Dracula Untold"

For those not interested in "Ouija," Universal has counter-programmed with the Luke Evans horror action film. The movie tells the story of young prince Vlad Tepes, who must become a monster feared by his own people in order to obtain the power needed to protect his own family when his kingdom is threatened by the Turks. The movie mixes in horror elements with action elements. While critics panned the film when it opened in October, audiences were still driven to see it. The movie will definitely appeal to Evans fans, as well as action fans. It could also cross over to horror fans if they are enticed by the subject matter.

"John Wick"

Keanu Reeves stars in this Lionsgate action film, which surprised at the box office. The movie tells the story of an ex-hitman who comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. The film was a huge surprise when it was released because reviews were extremely positive and as a result it was a box office success for Lionsgate. With positive word-of-mouth after its theatrical expect the movie too become a cult classic.

"Dear White People"

Roadside Attractions will release the critically acclaimed Sundance film. The movie follows the lives of four black students at an Ivy League college. The film has been a huge hit among Indie audiences and it was a huge festival film. "Dear White People" also won star Tessa Thompson a number of accolades including a Gotham award for breakout star. The film is currently nominated for two Indie Spirit Awards and will likely appeal to art house audiences.

"The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby"

After having bombed at the box office, the Weinstein Company will release the critically acclaimed drama. Starring Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy, the film tells the story of one couple's story as they try to reclaim the life and love they once knew and pick up the pieces of a past that may be too far gone. The film was originally intended as a two-part feature in which the story was told from the perspective of both characters. However, in order to make it more commercial, Weinstein edited it into one film. The results were mixed reviews at the Cannes Film Festival. The company will release the edited version this week. There's no word yet as to whether the two-part version will ever be seen on DVD. However, it should still be intriguing to see what the Weinstein's put together.
