Apple wasted no time in upgrading the iPad as the tech Giant announced on Tuesday that the iPad Mini 2 with Retina Display would be available online.

The news came as a surprise to the people who were complaining that Apple needed to catch up to its competitors; the company wasn't expected to have the new iPads out for at least another week or around the Black Friday sales following Thanksgiving. The main drawback of the release, of course, is that the news is so fresh that the iPads are still in production and thus are not yet in stores.

The smaller-sized, 7.9 inch screen on the iPad Mini is complemented with a much better resolution than the larger iPad currently has.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said on a call in October that he views the tablet market as 'huge'.

"We see it as a large opportunity for us, he said. "We are not solely focused on unit share, as we've said many times, but on usage and customer satisfaction and other things that are very important to us."

Others chimed in about the effect that the new screens will have on Apple products in the upcoming holiday season.

"At $399, the new iPad Mini is certainly one of the more expensive 8-inch tablets on the market and a few multiples of the price beyond the least expensive Android tablets," said Ross Rubin, who is the principal analyst at Reticle Research. "However, it includes premium components including the high-resolution display and high-end A7 processor."
