41-year-old Mexican TV star Karla Alvarez was found dead at her apartment on Friday in Mexico City. The cause of death was related to respiratory failure stemming from bulimia and anorexia, according to several reports.

The actress, who was well known in Mexico, had a history of being surrounded by allegations of addiction. Rumors circulating the web have alleged that she may have had a history of alcoholism and that it could have been responsible for the time that she had to pull out of a telenovela.

Alvarez starred on screen in a variety of different films and shows such as "Mi Querida Isabel," "Agujetas de Color de Rosa," "Prisionera de Amor," "La Intrusa," "Vivan los Niños," and "Que Bonito Amor."

Alvarez's father spoke to the media after the news broke and said, "How can you be a parent after you've lost your child?"

"I appreciate your concern, you understand, but I ask that you respect my pain," he said to Refroma Newspaper, according to Latin Times.

Alvarez's ex-husband, Alexis Ayala, also talked to Refroma Newspaper and made it clear that the two did not stay in close contact after ending their marriage together.

"Hopefully she has gone in peace, and that her family is well. We had many years of not seeing each other, but I will always remember her as someone who was a large part of my life," he said.

The longtime actress spent two decades in the business and graduated from the National School of Dance. According to The Las Vegas Guardian Express, she was nominated for Best Young Actress in 1995 and in 2007 she won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Herida de Amor.
