A student at the University of Illinois at Chicago has been charged with aggravated sexual assault after he attacked a female student over the weekend. The accused said he was trying to reenact a scene from the film “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

The university’s news Twitter account reported the sexual assault, explaining the victim knew the assailant, and he was apprehended by campus police in less than an hour.

According to NBC Chicago, the student charged is 19-year-old freshman Mohammed Hossain. The judge set a bail of $500,000 during a hearing on Monday.

The prosecution said at around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday Hossain and the victim went to his dorm. Inside, he asked her to disrobe, which she did, but remained with her underwear on. He bound her hands and feet with belts and stuffed her mouth with a necktie. Hossain then covered her head and proceeded to remove the rest of her clothes. He also then began striking her with a belt.

The victim pleaded with Hossain to stop, but he continued until she managed to free one of her hands. However, he continued to restrain her as he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Hossain’s roommate showed up later, but Hossain prevented him from entering until the victim left. The police were then notified.

The Chicago Tribune reports Hossain’s attorney, assistant Cook County public defender Sandra Bennewitz, told the judge he was part of various UIC leadership programs, was a student ambassador to the alumni association and was on the triathlon team.

"Sandra, how can someone involved in all that let a movie persuade him to do something like this?" judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. said.

The lawyer replied the encounter was consensual. Prosecutors said the two had “previously been intimate" but were not dating, and she had asked Hossain to stop -- but and he refused.
