Houssam Hammoudi set out on a journey from Canada to find his fiancée, Grace Acojedo, who was in the Phillipines during horrifying Typhoon Haiyan. After not being able to reach Grace via phone, Hammoudi decided to travel to the Philippines, to her town of Ormoc.

After arriving in Ormoc, Hammoudi found his fiancée's home destroyed and with obviously no one in it. He finally found Grace in a nearby clinic, alive, but very badly injured. The concerned fiancée then transported her to a hospital where they realized how bad her injuries were and started to operate on her immediately, to save her leg from being amputated.

Grace lies in a hospital bed recovering today, but with her fiancée right by her side. Houssam is documenting Grace's recovery through a Tumblr blog called "Operation Saving Grace". Grace was even strong enough to record a short video thanking the Tumblr followers and everyone who has been supporting her and her fiancée.  She says, "She is very lucky to have him" as Houssam is paying all of the hospital costs out of his own pocket (PayPal donations are welcomed).

We aren't sure how the couple originally met, but we are happy to know that they found each other.  Most of all, it is a joy to see that Grace survived the Typhoon, and will one day share her story of love and strength with the world. Through all of the tragedy in The Philippines it is nice to hear a story like this. Love can truly break all barriers. For someone to travel these great lengths into a dangerous place ruined by a natural disaster, to then try to find the person that he loves, definitely takes some love and courage.  It's nice to know that a story like this can have a happy ending. We wish them the best.
