Charlie Hunnam quit the Fifty Shades of Grey movie because of what was announced as an "immersive TV schedule." Producer Michael De Luca recently sat down and revealed a bit more about the short history of Hunnam as Christian Grey.

Despite Universal Pictures' and Focus Features' Oct. 12 announcement that Hunnam left the Fifty Shades of Grey movie because of his tight "Sons of Anarchy" schedule, some speculated that fan backlash was the true cause of his departure.

Fifty Shades of Grey producer Michael De Luca, admits that he was not blind fans' reactions.

"... I am on Twitter constantly," De Luca told The Hollywood Reporter. "I am a masochist. I'm into the fandom, so I was aware of what was coming the first time around, when Charlie Hunnam wasn't what most readers pictured."

Twitter, however, does not control everything.

"But he was so awesome in this audition that he did with Dakota Johnson, and he really wanted to play that character and we're not making the movie based on Twitter," De Luca explained. "We thought we'd get there with him, and then when we couldn't, we anticipated that the new guy, Jamie Dornan, was going to be more of what the fans conjured in their imaginations."

Dornan, who played Sheriff Graham in ABC's "Once Upon a Time," happily replaced Hunnam.

"I didn't feel pressure because we had a possible replacement in place before the thing actually went down," De Luca said. "It's just called being prepared."

Dornan has Hunnam's blessing.

"I'm sure he'll do a great job," Hunnam told TMZ this week.

Fifty Shades of Grey will be released Feb. 13, 2015.
