A source told TMZ that Jennifer Lawrence and director David O. Russell were "loudly screaming and swearing at each other" on the "Joy" movie set in Boston on Tuesday.

The argument allegedly started because the 24-year-old actress was unhappy with how Russell was directing a scene, according to TMZ.

A Fox 2000 representative, the studio through which the movie is being made, told TMZ that what appeared a loud argument was "method acting." Russell was helping Lawrence to get fired up before she shot a scene in which she had to shout at another actor.

The tabloids aren't buying the method acting excuse since this would not be the first time Russell has allegedly argued with an actor on a movie set. He had a falling out with George Clooney on set during filming of the 1999 movie "Three Kings." Clooney told the New York Times they "actually came to blows" on the set.

And then there is his notorious 2004 "I (Heart) Huckabees" on-set tirade aimed at Lily Tomlin, which demonstrates Russell's hot temper and colorful directing style.

Furthermore, on the same day as the Lawrence incident, an eyewitness told TMZ that Russell reamed out a Fox executive because she was defending the set line producer who he wants to fire. The eyewitness said the female executive started crying.

"Joy" is the third film that Russell and Lawrence have worked on together.

Lawrence won a Best Actress Oscar for their first movie, "Silver Linings Playbook" in 2013. She was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category in 2014 for their second effort, "American Hustle."

The movie "Joy" is based on a true story about Joy Mangano (Lawrence), a struggling single mother who achieved astonishing success for her creation of the Miracle Mop.

"Joy," which also stars Bradley Cooper who was her co-star in "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle," is scheduled for release on Dec. 25.
