Vice President Joe Biden made his second trip to Guatemala with his wife, Jill Biden, Monday morning, as he prepares for meetings within the next two days, according to a White House press release.

Biden will meet with Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina and representatives from the private sector and civil society. His visit will include examples of successful violence prevention efforts.

Biden also plans to hold meetings with Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez and El Salvadorian President Sanchez Ceren to outline concrete goals going forward with enhancing the Latin American region's economic growth.

The vice president wants to follow up on the Alliance for Prosperity, announced back in November, with Inter-American Development Bank President Luis Alberto Moreno.

Biden plans to meet with leaders of the Latin American region to address ways to continue to reduce inequality and promote educational opportunities.

A major policy topic for Washington's visit to Guatemala targets criminal networks responsible for human trafficking. Biden's goal is to address how each nation in the region could create institutions that are transparent and accountable.

Biden will begin his plenary session with Central American Heads of State and other leaders, marking his first day of the trip.

Jill Biden is on the trip to meet at Casa Presidencial with first lady of Guatemala Rosa Leal de Perez and first lady of Honduras Ana Garcia de Hernandez.

The visit to the Latin American region comes after Biden canceled his trip to Uruguay over the weekend because of a cold, The Associated Press reports

He was supposed to lead the U.S. delegation to incoming President Tabare Vazquez's inauguration on Sunday in Montevideo. But Biden did congraluate the president and "applauded Uruguay's active role in international peacekeeping, as well as its principled leadership on regional and global issues," the White House said
