NFL teams inched one step closer to the playoffs on Sunday after a wild twelfth week of play.

The best was saved for last as the Denver Broncos surrendered a 24 point third quarter lead and ultimately lost to AFC rival New England Patriots in overtime on Sunday night, 34-31. The Patriots improved to 8-3 while the Broncos' loss marked a big missed opportunity to get a game ahead of division rival Kansas City. The Chiefs fell to the Chargers earlier in the day, meaning both teams' loss over the weekend has set up an incredibly anticipated Week 13 divisional matchup between the two squads.

In the NFC, the Giants' magical winning streak came to an end when Big Blue's offense was just unable to keep up in a big game at the Meadowlands against the Dallas Cowboys. It wasn't so much that the Giants offense didn't produce but rather it was Victor Cruz's costly fumble as the Giants were driving, which was picked up by the Cowboys and seconds later Dallas had the game's first points. The Giants' defense played well but the Cowboys held on to win with a last minute drive, 24-21.

In an interconference matchup, the Indianapolis Colts continued to struggle en route to a 40-11 loss to the surging Arizona Cardinals, who are now 7-4. The Cardinals' quarterback, Carson Palmer, has enjoyed a nice comeback year with a newer team.

In Houston, Jacksonville Jaguars won their second game of the year and the team never even had to score more than a touchdown. The Houston Texans only managed to get two field goals, but it didn't seem like too bad at first considering that the score was 10-3 at halftime.

Tonight's game, slated for 8:30 p.m., features Washington and San Francisco.
