Singer Jenni Rivera and six others died in a 2012 plane crash. The investigation into the crash is still not yet completed because the owner of the plane, Christian Eduardo Esquino, disappeared, Diario Basta reports, according to La Opinion.

Among those who died in the crash with Jenni Rivera were her publicist, Arturo Rivera; makeup artist Jacobo Yebale; hairstylist Jorge Armando Sanchez Vasquez; and Mario Macias Pacheco, her attorney.

In January 2013, Rivera's relatives sued Esquino's company Starwood Management LLC for wrongful death, loss of support and punitive damages, according to the Press-Telegram.

"Until now we have had seven hearings, we have things in our favor, but unfortunately [Christian Eduardo Esquino] did not arrive to the last hearing and he has disappeared; the case is practically won, but there's not trace of him or of the planes he owns," Cynthia Rivera said.

Family members of Rivera have tried to contact Starwood Management LLC.

"Starwood Management was registered under a Las Vegas address for their offices, but when it was traced, it was discovered that it was only a P.O. box, or better said, the business did not exist," the complaint reveals.

The disappearance of Esquino is puzzling to the courts, and according to Cynthia Rivera there have been only five cases in American history where the offender has managed to flee like this.

Before Esquino fleed, the trial had been going in favor of the plaintiffs. First, the court refused to transfer the case to Mexico at the request of Starwood's attorneys. Starwood also requested a 200 questionnaire by the plaintiff's lawyers be thrown out; that request was denied. And finally, Starwood's attorney resigned after an argument over pay.

The plane carrying Rivera and six others was said to have a defective wing and failed to be inspected by Starwood Management. The investigation is still ongoing at this point.
