On Monday, March 2, Armando Nunez -- the president and CEO of CBS Global Distribution Group --announced that Judge Judy Sheindlin's CBS contract was extended through 2020, the New York Daily News reports.

CNN notes that prior to extending the show, "Judge Judy," which is already confirmed to air through 2017, CBS traditionally extends the star's contract first. Now that Sheindlin's contract is confirmed till 2020, her show will most likely run until then as well, says CNN.

Following the news of her contract extension, Sheindlin issued a press release expressing her excitement towards continuing her working relationship with CBS.

"I'm thrilled to be working with my CBS family for five more years and very excited about this new adventure in production," said Sheindlin. "I loved the experience of creating and developing Hot Bench and look forward to replicating its success with more new, compelling and smart TV."

Nunez echoed Sheindlin's sentiments and praised her for her work and success with CBS.

"She is a true television icon who entertains and inspires millions of fans each day on Judge Judy. We look forward to continuing to provide our station partners with her highly successful show and to working with her to create the next generation of hits."

CNN reports that Sheindlin has been working with CBS on "Judge Judy" since September 1996 and has become among the highest-paid television personalities, earning nearly $45 million a year.

In addition to "Judge Judy," Sheindlin also created another successful CBS show, "Hot Bench," which has become one of the highest-rated new shows on daytime television with an average of 2.3 million viewers a day.

"'Judge Judy' is the highest-rated regular series in all of TV syndication, regularly outdrawing such iconic shows as 'Wheel of Fortune' and top-rated talkers like Ellen and Dr. Phil," according to CNN. "In its 19th season, 'Judge Judy' is averaging 10.3 million viewers a day."

CNN adds that "Judge Judy" has remained No. 1 in the genre of court shows for 969 weeks thus far.
