On Monday, March 2, "Suicide Squad" director David Ayer teased on Twitter that actor Jared Leto would cut off his signature long locks for the upcoming film.

Ayer posted a photo of scissors next to Leto's hair and a few hours later he debuted another photo of the Academy award winning actor with a brand new shorter haircut.

Fans immediately flocked to Twitter to comment on Leto's dramatic transformation. Check out some of the tweets below.

HollywoodLife.com reports that Leto's transformation is for his role as the Joker in Ayer's film "Suicide Squad."

Sources from THL say that Leto is taking the role very seriously and is confident in portraying the already famous villain to the best of his ability.

"Jared wants to make sure his Joker is not only something the fans will love, but he doesn't want to step on the toes of Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger," says a THL source. "He wants to make the character completely his own. He knows that this role may be his most difficult ever, but he is confident that he will make his version of the Joker the best. This Joker will be more cerebral and comedic than what we have seen before, nobody should expect a copycat version. It's going to be awesome!"

Prior to his role in "Suicide Squad," Leto underwent a dramatic 30-pound weight loss for his role as an HIV positive transexual in "Dallas Buyers Club," says the New York Daily News.

"Suicide Squad" is set to hit theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
