Even as she insists she gave up drugs nearly 20 years ago, Hollywood film star Juliette Lewis admits, "I have dealt with mania all my life."

People Magazine reports the 41-year-old "Secrets and Lies" star credits her family with helping her overcome many of her shortcomings.

"I quit drugs at 22," she said. "I traveled a lot, I dealt with my priorities. I have such a beautiful, strong family and friends and they are like everything to me."

In the new ABC aired series, Lewis stars as Det. Andrea Crawford and is assigned to investigate Ben Crawford, a role played by Ryan Phillippe, as a primary suspect in a murder investigation.

The "Cape Fear" and "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" actress praises Phillippe's performance in the show as nothing short of "phenomenal."

She later added, "That's a role of a lifetime. He plays a broken man, a guy on the edge. Not many actors have to play that realm of emotion."

The 41-year Phillippe recently disclosed his own bouts with depression. Phillippe told Elle.com his own personal struggles have made it a little easier for him to relate to his TV character because he feels "quietly tortured at time."

The "Cruel Intentions" star said, "As you get older I think [depression] decreases some, but I'm just innately kind of a sad person. I'm empathetic, and I take on the feelings of others and transpose myself into the position of others. There's great value to it, but it can also ruin your f-king life."

Phillippe has also starred in such films as "I Know What You Did Last Summer," "Crash," "54," and "Gosford Park." He was previously married to actress Reese Witherspoon for 10 years, and they have two children together.
