"Amores con trampa," Emilio Larrosa's hotly anticipated new telenovela, which premiered on March 2 on Televisa in Mexico, "is a very complete story in the sense that it deals with family, the countryside, the city," its producer has told Esto en línea.

The show is a remake of "Somos los Carmona," one of the most successful Chilean novelas of the past few years. It tells the story of a family that adapts to city life after moving out of the country in search of a better future. Here are some of its main protagonists, as explained by Univisión, before the March 30 United States premiere.

  • Isabel Velasco is a beautiful and wealthy woman, whose primary concern is to maintain the family's reputation intact. "She is always dressed elegantly, as the standards of her status demand," Univisión said. Isabel is mother to Alejandra, her only daughter. The woman is portrayed by Mexican singer and actress Itatí Cantoral, best known for her role as Soraya Montenegro in Televisa's telenovela "María la del Barrio."

  • Santiago Velasco, Isabel's husband, is the head of the clan who also leads the family business. He often faces severe economic problems because of his arrogance. "Cold, manipulating, arrogant and proud, that's how one defines Santiago," according to Univisión. For Santiago's role, the channel cast Mexican actor Ernesto Laguardia, who last appeared in "Corona de Lágrimas."

  • Facundo Carmona, meanwhile, is "simple, dapper and manly," Univisión explained. He knows how to work the land, but his most striking features are his sense of justice and commitment to honor. Facundo is married to María, with whom he has four children. The "joyful and positive" man is played by Mexican actor Eduardo Yáñez, famous for "Amores Verdaderos" and "Corazón Salvaje."

  • María Carmona is known as the most beautiful woman in her family's village, and just like her husband, she has a joyful and strong character. Unsurprisingly, she loves Facundo from the bottom of her heart, and she is committed to traditional values such as obedience, rightenousness and prudence. "She fulfills the role of a married woman and that of a protective and loving mother," according to Univisión. María is portrayed by Mexican actress áfrica Zavala, who last starred in "Peregrina."
