The 20th season of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" started Monday night with what USA Today sarcastically dubbed a "surprise": "Some of the celebs can actually dance!" the newspaper judged.

Writer Ann Oldenburg was particularly impressed with the skills of Rumer Willis. The actress's parents -- Bruce Willis and Demi Moore -- were both present in the studio to cheer on their daughter. The "Sorority Row" star took to the floor with a foxtrot accompanied by professional Val Chmerkovskiy -- and the judges were impressed.

The 26-year-old earned straight eights from Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough, Bruno Tonioli -- and even Len Goodman -- for a total of 32 points, USA Today noted. "You are in it to win it!" Inaba shouted. Willis and Chmerkovskiy know each other through mutual friends, ABC 7 revealed, and the dancer said he hoped her to stop beating herself up and "just do it."

Meanwhile, there were two other couples who managed to breach the 30-point threshold, the Los Angeles ABC affiliate noted: Musician Riker Lynch and artistic gymnast Nastia Liukin received 31 and 30 points from the judges, respectively, and left their audience similarly impressed.

Lynch, who was one of the Dalton Academy Warblers on Fox's hit show "Glee," has paired up with Allison Holker on "Dancing with the Stars," and their jive was set in a pretend rock show. Goodman noted that the R5 bassist was a true "wild child," while Inaba said he was fun but could be more graceful.

Liukin, the 2008 Olympic individual all-around and 2005 and 2007 balance-beam world champion, meanwhile, performed a Foxtrot to a mash-up version of "New York, New York." The gymnast dances with Derek Hough, who in the end decided not to sit out the season as originally planned. Tonioli was the judge who was most impressed with the couple's efforts, nothing that the two were firing on all cylinders.

The remaining participants -- soldier Noah Galloway, "Shark Tank" panelist Robert Herjavec, singer Patti LaBelle, model Charlotte McKinney, singer Redfoo, football player Michael Sam, actress Willow Shields, author Suzanne Somers and "Bachelor" star Chris Soules -- all still have some work to do; but with 10-or-so weeks to go, there will be plenty of time to improve.
