Following his success with "Fifty Shades of Grey," Jamie Dornan, a former fashion model, has continued to rocket in popularity despite his humble beginnings with one BBC drama.

In a profile by the Guardian, Dornan's long-time friend Hadley Freeman write about how the 32-year-old actor rose from unknown model to one of the most recognized faces in Hollywood.

Dornan, not one to drop names or bother with celebrity status, rose to prominence through the BBC2 series "The Fall," which he credits for his success.

"That show has given me ev-er-y-thing," he said. "It's a serious bit of f*****g culture and just such a treat to do. I know that every opportunity I get from now on is because of 'The Fall.'"

Thanks to that show, in which he plays serial killer Paul Spector, he was considered for the role of cold-eyed BDSM enthusiast Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey." However, he is worried about the roles he is being known for, as they are not like his personality.

"I consider myself quite light-hearted, pretty easy-going, and I keep playing sick psychopath bastards! It kinda worries me sometimes how comfortable I am in that zone," he said.

Freeman commented about how funny she found his casting as Grey. Dornan sometimes says he cannot believe he was cast himself, joking at times: "Wait, I'm that guy!"

Yet, he is happy with his choice, in spite of the bad reviews and the rumors circulating about the movie.

"You know, I'm not naive as to why people would think it was a bad [career] choice, or why there is a snobbery about it," he said. "But I'm also not stupid, and I knew with [director] Sam [Taylor-Johnson], and [cinematographer] Seamus McGarvey, the film would be in safe hands. And, you know, it does no harm to be in a film that makes half a billion dollars."

Although he has other film projects ahead of him, Dornan has not forgotten his roots and will return to "The Fall" for the show's third season, which has been renewed by the BBC, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

He will continue to star alongside Gillian Anderson, who plays Superintendent Stella Gibbons.
