Darius McCrary, the actor who starred in the popular '90s sitcom "Family Matters," was arrested and jailed on Wednesday for failing to keep up with his child support payments. 

The 38-year-old former child star, who played Eddie Winslow the longrunning series, was taken into custody at the Oakland County Jail in Michigan after falling behind on paying his child support, TMZ reports. However, he didn't say behind bars for long. Instead, he appeared before a judge in Oakland County judge who gave him the option to either pay $5,500 in back support or spend two weeks in jail. According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, he chose to pay the money and was then released that same day, reports People.

Following his release, the actor, who recently appeared on "Anger Management," shared his side of the story and defended himself as a good father on Twitter.

"All I'm trying to do is raise my son. #BeingDadIsNotAnOption" he tweeted.

"I've spent all my career in Hollywood and have NEVER been arrested once," he wrote on Twitter. "I fly in to Oakland County 2 resolve issues and u guys got jokes?"

He even went as far as to compare himself to a civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"If they did it to Dr. King... Who am I?" McCrary posted on Thursday along with a picture of the legendary leader before deleting the tweet, reports CNN.

"Shot out & a BIG #salute 2 the Oakland county Sheriffs and All Fathers being wrongly persecuted ... #StayStrong U guys rock!!" 

In addition, he posted a throwback pic the school clothes and supplies he bought his son, along with the caption, "School shopping 4 my son. Do anything 4that little guy, love him beyond measure. #Dad."

After starring on "Family Matters" from 1989 to 1998, McCrary had a two-year run on "The Young and the Restless" as Malcolm Winters. He also had a voice role in "Transformers" as Autobot Jazz.
