With Starz's "Outlander" coming back on Saturday, fans all over North America are excited to see the return of the television adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's best selling novels.

As the show approaches its return, those involved, including the cast, have opened up about their journey and what to expect from the show.

Both Sam Heughan, 34, who plays Jamie, and Caitriona Balfe, 35, who plays Claire, sat down and conducted interviews about the show ahead of the return of Season One's second half, which airs April 4 at 9 p.m.

Speaking to the Toronto Star, the show allowed Heughan, who is Scottish, to reconnect with his birth country.

"I'd been living away from Scotland for 14 years. While I've been back to do bits of theatre or TV, this is the first time I've been back for a long time," he said. "I'm rediscovering Scotland; I'm falling in love with it again. Learning more about its history and culture has been one of the joys of working on this show."

A supporter of Scottish independence in last year's failed referendum, in which Scotland remained within the U.K. by a slim margin, Heughan loves the time period the show is set in, saying: "It was an amazing moment in history to be there and to be filming something so similar."

When the conversation turned the shows very explicit sex scenes, the Scottish actor said he gets anxious about filming them.

"There's a lot of Dutch courage going on there -- you know, a strong nip of whiskey before we start. But honestly, Caitriona and I use all that energy and we're there for each other," he said.

However, he added they cannot be gratuitous. "You've got to trust that the scenes are useful insofar as they move the characters forward and help develop their relationship."

Nonetheless, they can be awkward, especially watching them, as Balfe told Entertainment Weekly.

"I don't think anyone should be filming themselves doing that," she explained. "But, yeah, you have to watch."

Family, on the other hand, does not. Heughen joked he told his grandmother the first half of the season ended with episode six, skipping over the "Wedding" episode, where Jamie and Claire have sex for the first time.

Speaking at the return's premiere at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre on April 1, executive producer Ronald D. Moore hinted at what to expect from the rest of the season.

"The (first) book ends in a very dark, disturbing, harrowing place, and we went for that," he told Variety. "I think we pulled it off, and I'm very curious to see how people react."
