The mystery and intrigue that surrounds the upcoming April 17 release of CW's new show "The Messengers" leaves us wanting more.

As can be seen from their new teaser trailer, there are many conclusions one can draw as to what this show is about. But from what we can gather, it appeared as though it has some holy, otherworldly premise.

Let's just get right down to the brass tacks, because that was not really far off. Otherworldly, yes. Holy, yes. As reported on International Business Times, a comet strikes the Earth and causes the simultaneous death of five people in different locations. These five characters are who become the stars (angels) of the series because when they return to life, it has been redefined with a new purpose.

What we have not seen yet is that the comet actually struck the Earth near the "Trinity Site," which is where the world's first atomic bomb was tested. Coincidentally, that is also where the devil has risen. (As if that isn't the comical irony that lightened the mood.)

The dubious energy from the comet is what led to the momentary deaths of our five heroes, but also gave them their new powers after they were mysteriously resurrected.

God is angry and doubtful of his people. So now, they must meet his standards through a test. Face the devil. Defeat the devil. Simple as that? Maybe, but we will still have to see how it plays out. But of course that could cast doubt on the pre-ordained theory.

Now here is something that is also a little ironic: Diogo Morgado is who plays the devil in this series. Don't know who that is? Well, maybe if you've seen the film "Son of God," you will recognize him as the character Jesus.
